In the other Group F game, the Netherlands beat Tunisia 3-1 to lock up top spot, Jan Paul van Hecke heading in among the goals while Tunisia managed only a Hazem Mastouri reply. Group E produced the night's shock: Ecuador beat Germany 2-1. Leroy Sane struck after two minutes, but Angulo levelled almost at once and Plata turned it around on 77 minutes. Germany still went through as group winners on six points; Ecuador, on four, took one of the best third-placed spots and reached the knockouts for the first time in 20 years. Ivory Coast saw off Curacao 2-0, Nicolas Pepe scoring twice, to advance for the first time.

Japan today

Japan drew 1-1 with Sweden and finished second in Group F to reach the last 32. Ritsu Doan slipped Daizen Maeda in to score early in the second half, but Anthony Elanga equalised six minutes later. Takefusa Kubo, nursing a left-knee problem, sat this one out again. In the Round of 32 Japan face Brazil, winners of Group C, on 29 June in Houston — kickoff falls in the early hours of 30 June Japan time.

Tonight into tomorrow morning (JST)

At 11am the Group D finale runs side by side: Turkey vs the United States and Paraguay vs Australia, with the host nation's place on the line. After midnight, at 4am on the 27th, Group I closes with Norway vs France and Senegal vs Iraq — Erling Haaland against Kylian Mbappe, with top spot at stake, is the pick.
